Grain Bins and Silos : with solid foundations!

For years, the agricultural industry has depended upon concrete foundations for their storage buildings. While concrete provides an extremely strong foundation which will last for years, it isn’t the only option available. With costs rising and the need to find innovative ways to save on expenses, many farming operations are turning to Postech Screw Piles for their grain bins and storage silos.

Postech Screw Piles can support large amounts of weight, as they transfer the weight directly to the ground, below the frost line unlike concrete pads simply sitting at the surface. Whether installing new grain bins or silos, a properly designed and properly installed Postech Screw Pile system can easily support the structure. Installation is done by trained professional Postech experts, as they have the proper equipment and experience to install screw piles.

As screw piles are anchored firmly in the earth, they provide an excellent anchor against the wind. Shear forces from the wind are transferred deep into the earth, allowing the ground itself to help hold the silo or grain bin in place. This makes these farming structures much less susceptible to the forces of nature than structures which are installed on a concrete slab.

Postech Screw Piles are also very cost effective. Since they don’t require excavation for installing the piles, such as concrete foundations do, one trained worker with one specially equipped excavator can make the installation. The reduced labor directly equates to lower cost and faster installation times.

Another advantage of using Postech Screw Piles, as opposed to concrete, is the ease of moving the structure if needed. A grain bin or silo that is constructed on a concrete foundation can’t be moved without destroying it. However, one that’s constructed over screw piles can be disconnected from the piles and moved intact. The screw piles can be removed from the ground and reinstalled in the new location, making the whole structure movable with a minimum of fuss. This allows farmers to reconfigure their farms as new technologies cause changes in their farming operations.

Finally, screw piles are environmentally friendly. With today’s focus on the environment, everyone is looking for “green” technologies to use. Postech Screw Piles disturb the environment less than any other type of foundation, and being removable, leave hardly a trace when it’s time to remove the structure.
