Muskoka : A Well-Established Santa's Village

To enjoy this magical place year-round, the theme park had to be built on solid ground. Therefore, the Postech Screw Piles Muskoka team was honored to participate in installing the foundations of Santa’s Village in Bracebridge.

Santa’s Village : Many Structures Supported by piles

Indeed, throughout Santa’s Village, several structures required solid foundations, particularly in areas with challenging soils, slopes, and limited accessibility.
The Restaurant Terraces
The outdoor terrace required the installation of 39 piles to support benches and picnic tables on sloping ground. Due to commercial use, the structure needed to support a load of 100 lbs per square foot, compared to the 60 lbs per square foot standard for residential applications.
The Bumper Boat Pavilion
This area required the installation of numerous piles beneath the pavilion’s entire concrete slab, including some placed in the water. To ensure maximum stability, two additional piles were installed beneath the main posts, along with three more specifically for the small tower of the Pavilion Lighthouse in Santa’s Village.
The Balloon Carousel
Due to its rotational movements and structural height, the carousel required extensive calculations to account for various forces. The Postech Screw Piles Muskoka team installed nine piles, each measuring 6 5/8 inches in diameter equipped with three 22-inch blades. To ensure greater strength, some piles were anchored at a depth of 128 feet (approximately 40 meters) to provide the necessary stability for the carousel’s central axis.

Project Challenges

Located in the heart of a forest, Santa’s Village presented numerous challenges.  The diverse soil types and varying angles of the sloping riverbanks required special attention. For the terrace, the main challenge was aligning and evenly leveling each bench and picnic table on sloping ground. Situated on a riverbank, the boat pavilion required the Postech Screw Piles Muskoka team to manage soft ground conditions and proximity to the river. They also needed to ensure the piles were driven deep enough to guarantee maximum stability and anchoring strength. Finally, for the balloon carousel, it was essential to account for multiple forces acting on the foundation, including lateral resistance, wind, and centrifugal force.

The Advantages of Postech

Postech’s screw pile technology enabled the team to meet all the unique requirements of the Santa’s Village project. Regardless of the size, type of soil, whether in water, mud, or on a slope.  We also needed to consider the weight of structures, whether stationary or in motion.

The use of piles guarantees solid foundations for several decades to the enjoyment and safety of visitors, but also for the satisfaction of the owner of Santa’s Village.

In addition, the use of light machinery made it possible to intervene easily and without damage to the terrain throughout the site.

The Postech Screw piles Muskoka team is proud to have participated in the construction of Santa’s Village.
