Screw piles must reach below the local frost depth, which ranges from 4 feet in southern regions to over 7 feet in northern Canada. The exact depth depends on soil bearing capacity and the load the pile must support. A certified Postech installer conducts a site assessment to determine the correct specification before installation begins.

Yes. Screw piles are engineered to support loads from lightweight deck structures up to full multi-story home additions and commercial buildings. The pile diameter, helix configuration, and installation depth are specified to match the structural load. For addition projects, Postech works with the project engineer to confirm specifications. Screw piles perform well in a wide range of soils: clay, sand, loam, and mixed glacial soils common across Canada and the northern US. Very rocky or highly organic (peat) soils require a site assessment to confirm feasibility. Our certified installers evaluate soil conditions before every project.

Postech screw piles are hot-dip galvanized and rated for a minimum 75-year service life in standard soil conditions. The installation comes with a lifetime warranty. For reference, most concrete foundations are rated for 50 years under ideal conditions.

In most jurisdictions, yes. Foundation work requires a building permit, and your contractor should pull it before work begins. Postech installers are familiar with local permit requirements and can guide you through the process. Some municipalities have specific provisions for helical pile foundations.
